Pokemon Sun & Pokemon Moon Wiki Guide

This page shows you how to capture and find Wimpod and Golisopod in Pokemon Sun and Moon. Wimpod requires an unconventional way of capturing in the sun and moon, so follow this guide if you want to add the water and bug type to your pokedex!

Golisopod is the second and final development of Wimpod and cannot be found in the wild. However, you can capture Wimpod and develop Pokemon into Golisopod once it reaches level 30.

Where to find Wimpod

Wimpod can be found on the sandy beaches of Route 8 and the coast of Bonnie Breaker and Bonnie Wilds.

Unlike other Pokemon, Wimpod is not encountered in tall grass or other terrain infested with other wild Pokemon. Instead, Wimpod appears in the world itself and you’ll need to get into it, literally, out of battle. Wimpod will go into its hole when it sees you.

There are two ways to easily operate Wimpod. Find a way to close the hatch and Wimpod will have no choice but to keep speeding up or head straight for you trying to get back inside. You can also run into it by jumping onto your Taurus and charging it at full speed.

How to catch Wimpod

Wimpod doesn’t have a meet rate, but its catch rate is 90. It’s a decent catch rate, but that’s not what makes catching a Wimpod difficult. If its health level drops to less than half, Wimpod will use its Wimp Out ability to instantly escape from battle. This makes moves like False Swipe inapplicable.

The easiest way to catch Wimpod is to throw a Quick Ball at the start of the battle. You might not get it on the first try, but Wimpod’s catch rate doesn’t make it too difficult. If you’re fighting it instead, try inflicting status conditions like Paralysis and Sleep to increase your chances. Do keep in mind that moves like Mean Look do not work on Wimpod.

So Wimpod decided to take off. Now what? Exit the area and return back for a chance to see Wimpod back in its original position. If it’s not there, try again and you’ll eventually see it again. If you defeated the Wimpod in your previous battle, another Wimpod will not reappear and it’s likely you’ll have to wait another day for it to show up.

Once Wimpod is caught inside Poke Ball, Pokemon is yours! Level up to Level 30 to evolve into a Golisopod!
